About Us

Company History

You might say that insurance found Gena Gaub, owner, and founder of Rocky Mountain Insurance Group (RMIG). In 1994 while working for a corporate agency in Billings, the phone rang, and one person needed help desperately. Hearing the confusion and frustration in that one voice spurred Gena to dig in to help. She listened, and problem solved like no one else in the industry was, stepping up to help as her Dad had taught and modeled for her growing up in Eastern Montana. That one call turned into another and another, leading Gaub to strike out on her own to open RMIG in Billings in 2000. RMIG hit the ground running, providing clients with right-sized health and life insurance solutions; born out of a fierce commitment to exceptional client outcomes. RMIG grew through word of mouth and reputation based on the firm values of honesty, loyalty, trust, and hard work.

2004 saw changes for RMIG, including a move in headquarters to the Gallatin Valley, where it has steadily grown into the company we are today— continuing to deliver exceptional client outcomes. We constantly challenge ourselves to learn from and work with our clients to find creative and innovative ways to provide insurance solutions. We are proud to have agents serving in Big Sky, Bozeman, Helena, and Livingston areas. We are grateful to work with people from all over our state and very proud of our team.

It started simple at Rocky Mountain Insurance Group and is still simple today: work hard and be nice.

Our Team

Gena Gaub - Broker/Owner & Founder

Upon your first meeting with Gena Gaub, owner and founder of Rocky Mountain Insurance Group, it may feel as though you’ve known her for years. Gena’s passion for her clients’ well-being builds on her intimate knowledge of the insurance industry to give each interaction a sense of authenticity and trust unique to Rocky Mountain Insurance Group.

  • A third-generation Montanan, Gena grew up in Miles City, where community and hard work define the shared local values. Since 1994, after graduating with a degree in Marketing from Montana State University-Billings, Gena has spent her time helping Montanans take care of their business, personal, and family health insurance needs. At the helm of Rocky Mountain Insurance Group, Gena has created an agency well known for its dedicated work ethic and long-term client relationships.

Her model has never typified the big-business approach of fixating on company growth and constant expansion – instead of lines on a ledger sheet, she measures RMIG’s success by client satisfaction. As she puts it, “Our focus is on relationships, and always taking care of our own. Here, you’re considered more of a family member than a client. It’s been my experience than when you do right by people and always take care of them, business success comes naturally.”

Kara Standlee - Broker

Kara Standlee specializes in individuals and small employer group accounts. A licensed agent known for her work ethic, approachability, Kara’s many long-term clients appreciate her detail-oriented approach and quick communication, giving them clarity and confidence in their coverage. She tackles the rapidly-changing ins and outs of health insurance with grace, composure, and an incredible depth of knowledge. A stickler for details, she’s known for identifying and preventing potential rough spots before her clients are ever impacted.

  • Kara has been with RMIG since 2017. In addition to being an expert in her field, she is remarkably well-rounded, with prior experiences including working as a Safari Guide in South Africa after earning a Bachelors in Biology with a focus in Zoology. Today, she applies those animal-wrangling skills to Quinn, her Cairn Terrier and the official office pup at RMIG.

Suzie Boyer - Operations Manager

Operations Manager Suzie Boyer works closely alongside our Broker/Owner and the entire team to support and promote RMIG policies and procedures to our clients, insurance carriers, and vendors. Suzie strives to provide clients and the team with the tools and resources needed to be successful while navigating the complex insurance world. She focuses on developing and implementing strategy and business plans for RMIG while continuing to support clients and the team.

  • Suzie joins us in our Bozeman office and brings over ten years of experience in HR, Benefits Management, Operational Support, and Management. Before joining RMIG, Suzie worked primarily in the software technology industry. It was during this time she learned the importance of understanding the client's needs and desired outcomes and the criticality of people first.

Suzie was born and raised in Helena, MT; she attended Montana State University and is a proud supporter and fan of all things Blue and Gold. Suzie loves to cook for her family, kayak, and enjoy the mountains.

Sarah Severs - Account Manager

Sarah joined the RMIG team in 2022 as an Account Manager. She delves into the administration of our client accounts and takes the reins with insurance enrollments, terminations, and preparing group renewals. Sarah can be counted on to listen to our clients and works with a high commitment to administering solutions that leave clients feeling respected, heard, and cared for with integrity.

  • Before joining the RMIG team, Sarah worked in the property management industry for many years, developing her passion for formulating memorable, enjoyable, and worthwhile client experiences.

In her free time, Sarah loves tending to her ever-expanding collection of houseplants, powerlifting at the gym, reading thriller novels, and traveling to visit family spread throughout the country.

Quinn - Head of Office Moral

Quinn the Cairn Terrier (like Toto from the Wizard of Oz) is the official office pup at RMIG. With a fiercely friendly disposition, she is “new best friend” to all UPS and FedEx delivery workers, but her true calling is as Head of Office Morale. Quinn loves all meats and cheeses as well as sleeping under the desk, and joining video calls unannounced.

“I’d highly recommend Kara and the Rocky Mountain Insurance team.”

“As a small business owner, the process of getting benefits and insurance set-up for our team always felt daunting, cumbersome and incredibly confusing. Kara patiently and thoughtfully walked us through enrollment with grace and ease. She’s immensely knowledgeable and seamlessly finds ways to make the process understandable and digestible for both the employer and employees. Kara took the time to meet with each eligible employee to better understand everyone’s individual situation so she could adequately guide them to make the right insurance decision – regardless of enrollment.”
